TV Content Licensing by Country and Territory

August 11, 2026 at 12:41 pm, No comments

Why Are Content Rights Different by Country?

Content owners may sell or assign distribution rights separately in different markets.

For example, the rights to distribute particular content in one European country do not necessarily provide the right to distribute the same content in another country.

This makes the operator's target territory an important part of the licensing process.

What Should an Operator Define?

Before requesting TV content, an IPTV or OTT operator should identify:

  • Target country or countries
  • Required languages
  • Type of content
  • Live TV or VOD requirements
  • IPTV and/or OTT distribution
  • Target devices
  • Subscription or other business model

With these requirements established, suitable content and available distribution rights can be evaluated.

Multi-Country OTT Services

Operators planning to serve multiple countries may need different rights or content packages for each territory.

The OTT platform may also need to control content availability based on the subscriber's market and the rights granted under each licensing agreement.

Content Licensing and Technology Together

Obtaining the appropriate content rights is only one part of launching a streaming service.

The content must also be managed, delivered, protected, and presented to subscribers.

Cast-TV combines TV content licensing support with IPTV and OTT technology, helping operators connect licensed content with the CMS, CDN, DRM, subscriber management, and branded applications required to deliver a commercial streaming service.
